To the Teacher

Our goal at KidsWow English Pro is to give you the teacher the tools and training so that you can excel and prosper.  We want you to make money while having fun teaching kids. We want you to know that you know how to lead kids through the natural learning process. The natural learning process is the most powerful tool we can give to kids.  They have it naturally, but they have to discover how to use it before it can really benefit them.

Dvds picWe want every child to have the best possible start in their English learning adventure.  We want language learning to become a life changing experience for instructors, students, and parents. We are interested in the whole person.  We know by experience how this works, and we refuse to settle for less.

We offer practical tools, advice, and down to earth suggestions to make teaching English to children an effective and fulfilling endeavor.  We are always looking for new ideas and new people to join the creative team.  Together we can change not only the English classroom but a future generation of kids.

How does KidsWow English Pro work?

First of all, we have a product that is unique.  KidsWow English Pro is not a copy or an improvement on other programs.  It is a whole new strategy, born out of years of experience in language learning, child raising, and education.  KidsWow is not an academic program; it is a lifestyle of learning.

We offer a variety of DVD English lessons that are designed to be watched at home.  We encourage parents to encourage the kids to watch the DVDs over and over until total memorization is complete.

We prefer to call our teachers Coaches rather than comparing ourselves with the average English teacher, who may not share our goals. Some English schools just teach and the student listens. But with the KidsWow program we are actually helping the kids learn to learn on their own. The Five Steps of Natural Learning are important. Right Brain learning styles are important. Please look at these articles as well.

As a Coach, your job is to check and encourage the kids in their learning process. They should already be learning at home, by watching the DVDs. We have flash cards for checking and practice that can be used in class to review vocabulary and sentence patterns. Each flash card has one response.  We want to lock the student’s response to an image, in order to trigger what is called the Right Brain learning style.  We also encourage the use of real objects, such as toys and balls, to help to visualize words and sentences being taught.  There are games for many of the lessons which add to the fun of class time and help the students to use English while doing some activity.

As a Coach, you have to work to make money. You don’t want to be hassled and stretched at every turn just to make a week’s wages. At the same time, you care about your students.  You would like to see them really learn English.  But everyone knows that a one hour lesson each week is not enough to see major breakthroughs in learning the English language.

We have developed a way to allow kids to get more input without requiring more class time. KidsWow English Pro does this by encouraging children to listen to the lessons at home even twice weekly in addition to the weekly lesson.  Through this extra input, the kids' ability to remember increases significantly. We also recommend that mothers learn with their kids.  If Mom or Dad is also learning English, kids will be motivated to learn more quickly.

Unfortunately, most people do not know how to learn language effectively and they may have had bad experiences in the past.  Many beginning teachers in Japan have little real experience with learning a second language, and so they tend to figure that anything they teach in English is English. They do not recognize the importance of building a foundational base, a process called nucleation.  Many teachers and students have no idea what it means to be fluent in a small portion of the language.  The idea of becoming fluent in what you know may seem absurd, but this is the key to long term retention. Please read the article about fluency and nucleation.

Goal: Learn a little and become fluent in what you know.

After careful observation of small children learning English naturally at home, I have found that they learn certain words first.  Certain phrases and sentence patterns take priority because they are easy to understand and are used over and over in everyday life.   Children listen a lot.  They also like to say the same things over and over.  This is how they become completely fluent in a small portion of the language they are learning.

Learning English as a second language is somewhat different because the surrounding environment is not an English speaking world. But to whatever extent it is possible, the natural learning process is the best.

IMPORTANT: Questions are more powerful than statements.  What, where, when, and who questions generate their own learning opportunities.  Listening precedes speaking, and reading precedes writing.  There is a natural progression to real language learning.

Our goal as Coaches is not to make the kids dependent on our English school to continue to learn, but rather to give them the tools with which to learn and expand on their own.  There is no shortage of kids needing to learn English, only a shortage of good Coaches ready to lead their students into a real learning lifestyle.

KidsWow English Pro makes a point of focusing on material that Elementary age kids need to learn. In public schools, students start Jr. High School and are required to learn English, and we want them to be prepared when they make this jump. Not only do we look for materials that will prepare Elementary students, but we also look for topics that are fun and interesting. We make an effort to create visual materials that use the vocabulary that is most important.
